DEAN OLMSTEAD, MENTOR

Dean Olmstead is one of the most highly respected and influential executives in the satellite telecommunications field, and the former President and CEO of SES Americom. In a career spanning more than two decades, Mr. Olmstead has had many accomplishments of note including executing the first foreign acquisition of a US satellite operator (the $5B acquisition of Americom from GE), contracting over $3B of transponder leases during the industry's slump, managing development of the US' first Ka-band spot beam satellite (ACTS), installing the world's first all-digital satellite broadcast center in Japan, funding development of the first broadband system for business jets (SkyLink), installing in Europe the world's first DVB-RCS broadband system, and leading the effort to gain international acceptance of the US' first international satellite system separate from INTELSAT (PanAmSat). After receiving an M.A. from Stanford in Engineering & Economic Systems, Dean moved to Washington , DC in the early 1980's to work at the Department of State, while pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics from American University . He then held executive engineering positions at NASA and Hughes Electronics before he joined SES in the late 1990's. In addition to his role as President of Arrowhead, Dean Olmstead is also Chairman of Satellite Development LLC ("SatDev"), providers of business and marketplace advice for clients seeking investments and growth in the commercial satellite industry.
